He needs to win Best Director this year. Like Manchester and Moonlight are beautifully directed films but the sheer amount of crazy work Chazelle had to put into La La Land is astounding. The thought into the order of the songs, the big set pieces, the masterpiece that is the Epilogue. This movie subverts the idea of a musical.

Every single song is amazing but Someone in the Crowd, Mia & Sebastian's Theme, City of Stars and Audition are all 10/10, especially in the context of the movie.
